Neapolitan style pizza didn’t exist in the northern suburbs of Atlanta before pizzaiolo Stefano Rea joined forces with Jennifer Simmons and Stewart Muller, to open Campania Pizzeria Napoletana, located on Highway 9 near Windward Parkway in Alpharetta.
The double zero dough slinger then took his game to the Milton/Crabapple area as the opening pizzaiolo at 850˚F Barpizza, where he stayed put until recently.
Just last week, the Naples, Italy born pizzaiolo surprised everyone when he appeared in the kitchen at Vinny’s on Windward (5355 Windward Pkwy, Alpharetta, Tel: 770.772.4644) a mere stone’s throw from Campania.
Rea says he plans to offer many of his favorite flavors from 850˚F Barpizza, including the arugula and his earthy tartufo.
After the flour settles at Vinny’s, Rea says he plans to implement his pizzas at VG Bistro on Highway 92 in Roswell and then the Union restaurant on Providence Road in Milton.
If Rea makes good on his plan, he will be responsible — in some way — for five Neapolitan-style pizzerias in the northern burbs alone, and the so-called arbiters of good pizza will owe him a huge debt of gratitude.
