Not too long ago I would have told you that good pizza and Forsyth county should not be mentioned in the same breath — that is until now. I am sure I speak for a lot of people when I say welcome Vincenza’s Pizzeria (765D McFarland Pkwy Alpharetta, GA 30004 Tel: 470-395-3931) to the forsyth county restaurant mix. You were desperately needed.
Vincenza’s is opened by Eddie and Anna Siino, the same people who own and operate the insanely popular BB’s Bagels directly across the street. Yep, in that weird, sort of seedy Chevron gas station strip center where I mistakenly thought good food could never exist.
Basically, if you like BB’s — I’ve yet to stumble upon anyone who doesn’t — then you are sure to like this New York-style pizza house.
What’s not to like? You’ll find those same rough-around-the-edges authentic New York accents and attitudes that you find across the street at the bagel shop. And, you will find the same passion for doing food the right way — no short cuts.
The slices are razor thin with that veneer of oil that you’ll find on just about every New York City street corner pizza, the sauce is bright and judiciously topped with stretchy, gooey Grande cheese.
The Sicilian (also offered by the slice) ranks right up there with the best I’ve ever eaten in Atlanta. So perfectly crispy and chewy in all the right places with a thin layer of sauce and light showering of cheese. They nailed this one. It alone is well worth the drive from anywhere in the city.
No subs, but they do offer rolls like the meatball parm and calzones along with a variety of salads — one was so large three of us ate off of it for two meals and still didn’t polish it off.
What surprised me most about Vincenza’s is the decor. Shiny new, squeaky clean and, dare I say, modern. It is the Cinderella of the strip center.
I imagine Vincenza’s will only get better with age, which is really, really good news for Forsyth county pizza fans.
