Verra-Zanno Pizzeria
'Za gods have blessed us again! pt II

Week: Mon. May 15th, 2006

One week has barely passed since I stumbled across Traditions Pizzeria and I find myself in a bustling little Duluth restaurant called Verra-Zanno Pizzeria. To set the record straight, this is the elusive pizza I was originally seeking when I just happened upon Traditions.

Like Traditions and Bella’s, Verra-Zanno tops its crispy thin crust with the highly regarded Grande cheese. But here, Fontanini sausage toppings are cut into long thin strips instead of sliced rounds.

Meatball subs arrive piping hot on crunchy Italian rolls covered in all that creamy glory that is Grande cheese.

Melanie rolls her eyes in disgust as I voraciously take down a monstrous Sausage Roll – long thick slices of Fontanini sausage wrapped in dough with freshly sautéed onions, peppers and cheese. Already full, I stuff my greedy gullet until it's gone.

So how does it stack up to the big boys of ‘za?
Verra-Zanno's pizza is in the same league with Bella’s and Traditions. That's pretty good company.

Is it just me or is all the better 'za these days (with the exception of Rosa's) suddenly somewhere OTP?
