Week: Thur.
June 9th and 16th
Is this just another gimmicky chain? I asked myself,
while perusing through shelves stocked with unusual retail products,
all from Vermont: Fox Meadow Farm, Northeast Kingdom and Boves
pasta sauce. But when I picked up the cheaply printed menu boasting
specialty sandwiches strictly constructed with only McKenzie
Meats, it struck me that this was just a bizarre owner with a
strange infatuation with all food products Vermont.
Okay, I'll go out on a limb and guess -- perhaps a displaced
Vermonter?
Cool. These are the type places and faces that make our eating
scene here in Atlanta so interesting.
According to owner Derek McKenny, Vermont Mustard Company, located
on Cumberland Pkwy approximately one mile from Muss & Turners;
is the only place in Atlanta offering McKenzie Meat products.
And you guessed it turkey and ham are all honey and/or
maple cured.
Breakfast sandwiches, one of lifes many great pleasures,
arrive decked with nothing but McKenzie maple cured bacon and
sausage served on buttery croissants.
Everything in this store is Vermont, from the sandwiches to the
chips and sodas, right down to the McKenzie hot dogs with natural
casings. I didnt even know that McKenzie produced hot dogs
with natural casings, until now. I believe theres space
in any neighborhood for somebody willing to sell hot dogs
with natural casings.
