While the big name
paper critics are busy dining at popular restaurant openings
like Saga, and gearing up for swanky Sweet Lowdown, Im
out sifting through humble neighborhood eateries in search
of down to earth deliciousness. And recently, I discovered
that unpretentious delicious morsel at an unassuming little
to-go shop near Edgewood called Turnover Time.
Here, all sorts of warm savory goodness is wrapped in flaky
yet somehow chewy puff pastry shells molded in the shape
of a half football. In the morning they are filled with
fluffy scrambled eggs and ooze cheese. But for lunch theyre
stuffed with spicy jerk chicken with broccoli and soul-soothing
ground turkey pie (not so sloppy Joe).
Not all is savory at Turnover Time, Ive become crazy
addicted to the apple turnover whose flaky crust is showered
with judicious doses of cinnamon and sugar.
Turnover Time is amazing in that these flaky tortes are
priced modestly between $2.95 and $3.85. Surprisingly,
there is no dine-in despite the fact that there is plenty
of space to bring in tables and chairs. But its so
good, I dont mind sitting on the hood of my
car for now.
I only have one question, why isnt this place packed?
