Sometimes all I need is a burger and beer. And being the finicky foodsnob that I am I dont want some plain old ordinary burger I want the more exotic kobe or beef patties lavishly laced with foie gras.
But lately, Im into the whole grass-fed thing. Grass-fed beef has a distinct clean flavor; its texture is lighter and more delicate than that of classic American grain-fed. And it wont bog you down like the heavier conventional beef.
The closest grass-fed burger to my doorstep is at Muss & Turners. The organically raised meat is supplied locally by Riverview Farms in North Georgia. Its topped with a mild roasted poblano pepper, melted Grafton Cheddar and red onions, then slathered in creamy house made cilantro mayo.
And being the persnickety beersnob that I am I dont want some plain old ordinary beer I want the more seductive Saison Dupont or St. Bernardus ABT 12. I'll gladly take a domestic microbrew like Highland Gaelic Ale or even the dead guy (Rogue).
Several months ago Muss & Turner's cashed in their retail license for one that allows them to pour. They've since added an eight-stool bar armed with six taps all flowing craft beer.
Unbelievably, there isn't one single Bud, Miller or Coors product in the house.
I toast to Todd (Muss) and Ryan (Turner) for taking a courageous stance against bad (but extremely popular) beer.
And after reading back through this, it seems what I really want is a fancy schmancy burger and craft beer. |
