An early Saturday evening at the bar at Canoe could possibly be one of the most entertaining highfalutin hangouts in the city.  "Look, here comes one now!"  Blurts Melanie, pointing to a stumbling drunk woman (from the wedding reception outside) dressed in a skin-tight black dress and high heel shoes who is now falling over a table in the middle of the dining room.  Oh my, weddings always seem to bring out the worst in us.

These days there is good reason -- besides watching a perfectly good wedding party make drunken asses of themselves -- to visit Canoe. Until mid December, Canoe's chef, Carvel Grant Gould, is having fresh, never frozen, Alaskan king crab legs flown in to Atlanta from the foul-weathered Bering Sea, affording us the opportunity to enjoy the world's deadliest catch the way it was meant to be eaten.

"When frozen, Alaskan king crab legs are somewhat dry and rubbery in texture," explains Gould, "but eaten fresh, they are sweet."

The amazingly sweet leg and claw meat is served as an appetizer with Bibb lettuce emulsion and olive oil sorbet for only $18.  Make sure you call ahead to verify product availability.
