Looking for a bold stout that doesn’t smack of coffee to finish a perfect evening this holiday season?
Well, Highland Brewing Company’s Black Watch, a silky smooth double chocolate milk stout, could very well be the answer.
This big stout (8% abv) is the second release in the brewery’s limited release Warrior Series, a line of brews that, according to a Highland Brewing Company press release, will “demonstrate the brewery’s move to experiment with bolder styles and higher gravity beers.”
It is good to see a brewery like Highland Brewing, who has proven for over 20 years that they have the necessary shtick to put out high quality, well-balanced beers consistently, finally step outside the lines and stretch the boundaries a bit.
And this sexy stout does just that with its soft silky pour, velvety mouthfeel and rich milk chocolate overtones. Chinook & Willamette hops add complexity and sophistication by creating a lingering dark chocolate finish.
This decadent stout, made with real cacao nibs, is the brain child of bartender J Unger, an admitted chocoholic, who said when asked, “I drink stouts year round, and I’m constantly searching for the most chocolaty beer I can find.”
The beer turned out to be a crowd-pleaser at the brewery’s tasting room and then was tweaked for the unveiling.
Black Watch will be released and available in four-packs and on draft at the brewery’s tasting room in Asheville, NC Friday, November 27 (Black Friday) but not here in Atlanta until early next week.
