Alpharetta’s Plantation Italia (5155 Atlanta Hwy #105, Alpharetta, Tel: 770.475.7060) has raised the culinary bar yet again. This time with a rare Spanish gem called Iberico ham, which is widely regarded as the “best” ham in the world.
The Iberico ham offered at Plantation Italia is called bellota (acorn) because the free-range Black Iberian pigs graze on a healthy diet of acorns in oak forests along the border between Spain and Portugal.
The result is a silky smooth ham with a ridiculously rich, savory, nutty taste that very well could make this the tastiest ham in the world, as billed.
But whether or not it is worth the $200+ per pound price tag is the big question.
I say maybe so. But then, I am also thankful that it is sold in 2oz portions for $30.
I’ve got a mortgage to pay.
