Beer Binge Day 4: Monday Night Brewing (Homebrew) Porter

By at March 25, 2010 | 10:45 pm | Print

If you haven’t read my first entry regarding Monday Night Brewing, please do for a brief summary about this brewery-in-planning.

My second sampling was a dark porter (not officially named) that pours thin with virtually no head. The nose is somewhat sweet, almost unsettled, with notes of maple and hints of caramel. Flavor is alcohol up front with maple and toasty malts in the background before a dry hoppy, anti-climactic finish.

Possibly a little young and wild, not nearly as balanced as the light IPA and Blind Pirate. There’s a noticeable disconnect somewhere after the front flavor that allows the middle to stray.

This was my least favorite of three sampled. Still, for a homebrew, not too shabby.
