Beer Binge Day 4: Monday Night Brewing (Homebrew) Light IPA

Earlier this evening I found myself sipping beer in a garage with Jonathan Baker of Monday Night Brewing , an Atlanta-based brewery-in-planning. Baker and his partners, Jeff Heck and Joel Iverson, currently brew their stuff in a West Atlanta home garage where they throw Monday night beer bashes for a small cult-like following.

This is as raw as it gets, the garage reeks of stale beer, my feet stuck to the floor with every step. I was literally staring at every single reason my wife named for not allowing me to transform my garage into a modern day low-tech brewery.

These sassy Monday night brewers brew with good sense. Their beers are built around a rock solid foundation of balance and mouthfeel.

They hope to contract brew through Thomas Creek out of Greenville, SC. by year’s end.

The first beer I sampled was a no-name light IPA I’m told won’t make it to market. It poured a clear bronze with thick pillowy white head. Nose was all citrusy hops. Those dominating citrus notes carry into the up front flavor, though the hops are remarkably tame, allowing for a smooth shift to a slightly sweet finish with hints of apricot.

It might lack in complexity compared to bolder I.P.A.’s, but there’s just something about it. It’s a sexy warm weather beer.

Who are these guys?
